192.168.x.x IP Address

An IP address of that resembles 192.168.x.x means that your computer is currently connecting to a personal network. If you find yourself getting an address such as this, do the following (Windows XP Pro):

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Run
  3. Type in cmd
  4. Once the command prompt window opens, type arp -a > C:\arpa.txt. This outputs information to help RCC resolve this issue into a text file (arpa.txt) in your C: drive.
  5. Open My Computer
  6. Double click on your C: drive, typically called "Local Disk (C:)"
  7. Find arpa.txt
  8. Now do one of the following:
    • Contact Residential Computing Connection via phone. The Helpdesk operator will require the information in arpa.txt, so open it and read the information when asked.
    • Place the file arpa.txt on to a USB Drive and go to your computer lab. Send an e-mail to the RCC Help e-mail address rcchelp@bgsu.edu with the file attached.
