Position Summary
Area Coordinators are student supervisors, overseeing the operation of a division within Residential Computing Connection. Area Coordinators supervise the operation of Phone Staff, Computer Consultants, or ResTech divisions. Area Coordinators are responsible for monitoring the operation of their division by scheduling their staff members, assisting with the payroll process, keeping their staff members up to date with current pertinent information, or by working in conjunction with other Residential Computing Connection Senior Staff members with projects as assigned by the Assistant Director of Residence Life for Information Technology.
Persons in the position of Area Coordinator position will be expected to travel to and work in several locations throughout campus, including the Residential Computing Connection office, BGSU sponsored apartments, residence halls and small group living units both on and off campus.
While working in the Area Coordinator position, a person will commonly work as an individual, however situations may require an Area Coordinator to work as a member of a small group. All Area Coordinators are expected to work as a team on projects, participate in weekly meetings and perform other duties as assigned. The Area Coordinator position reports to differing individuals, depending upon the division overseen by the Area Coordinator.
Qualifications
Applicants must be a current employee, and have worked in a previous position with Residential Computing Connection.
A qualified candidate for any position within Residential Computing Connection must meet minimum qualifications for eligible employment outlined in the "ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS AND RESTRICTIONS OF STUDENT EMPLOYMENT" section of the Employer Handbook.
All candidates must have and demonstrate excellent customer service skills, written and oral communication skills. All positions will be required to lift objects such as computers, printers and tables and will need to traverse campus on a daily basis.
While not required, Residential Computing Connection will take into account any Certificates, courses, technical troubleshooting and/or previous job experience when determining who will be hired as Area Coordinator.
Schedule
- Average of 15 hours per week; including a variable number of flexible work hours
- Planning and supervision of mandatory training sessions taking place one week before the BGSU fall semester begins and two days before the BGSU spring semester begins
- One meeting per week with supervisors is required. Senior Staff meetings are one hour and 30 minutes long
- Structuring and planning of one meeting per week with staff members. The meeting is 30 minutes long, and occurs in a group format. Meetings are scheduled for Friday afternoons, at 4:30 PM
- Employees may be required to work during finals week
- Must be available to work at Residential Computing Connection during the summer
