MAC Address
The term MAC address is short for media access control address, and is sometimes also referred to as a hardware address. This address is unique to a particular hardware device on a network.
Use of the MAC Address
On the BGSU network, computers are assigned IP addresses based upon the MAC address of their computer's network interface.
In almost all cases, the MAC address is unique, but occasionally situations arise (via hardware design issues or applications) where a computer's network interface MAC address is not unique. Errors such as this may prevent a computer, or even all computers that are conflicting with one another, from getting an IP address, and thus, no Internet.
