Malware Protection and Removal
Notice
Some freeware or shareware programs, such as peer-to-peer software and screensavers, come bundled with malware. Running software that cleans a computer of malware may cause these programs to cease working.
If this dissuades you from cleaning your computer of malware, consider the benefits of a computer system that functions properly and does not compromise your personal information to a computer system that creeps along and monitors everything you do.

This page lists programs Residential Computing Connection recommends using to either protect against malware and security threats or to remove malware.
Protective Software
- McAfee VirusScan protects your computer from malware and other security threats. It can be used to scan your system from malicious programs and protect your computer from imposing threats.
Removal Software
- Ad-Aware is an adware and spyware removal program. Residential Computing Connection suggests using it but does not distribute it.
- Spybot is an adware and spyware removal program, but also removes other types of malware. Residential Computing Connection distributes Spybot on our Residential Resource Disc. Spybot can be configured to automatically update and run.
